To show up; to appear suddenly or unexpectedly.

Example: I don't like people turning up without an appointment.

To cause to appear; to find by searching, etc.

Example: I spent hours in the archives, but couldn't turn up anything on the alleged criminal.

To increase the amount of something by means of a control, such as the volume, heat, or light.

Example: Turn up the radio and sing along.

To reposition by rotating, flipping, etc. upwards.

Example: He turned up his collar against the cold.

Fabric turned up at the bottom of trousers to make them shorter.

Example: Why does all this fluff acumulate in the turn-ups?

A fight or disturbance.

The next card taken from the top of a pack of cards and displayed.

Example: I'll bet $10 that the next turn-up is an ace.

A stroke of good luck; something that appears unexpectedly; especially in turn up for the book.
